The Re-Mains

Dirty Weekend

eah. Those of you who were present at the Grand Junction’s weekend of coalface action were of course happy if not a little sore. The Re-mains performed to awesome crowds both days, delivering our now customary marathons sets at a rate of 2 per gig. Sam is working out so good as the new bassist that I’m afraid of peaking out too soon. I’m left with little doubt that the writing was on the wall the whole time and we just werent reading it. So it goes.

The last day after our show we witnessed the uncomprimising blues of Johnny Green. As usual, the shuffling chugga chug of the blues cowboys set the floor a-swingin and even us, who were mostly at the end of our tethers by that stage managed to stay there for the long haul. Wardy and I engaged in a competition to see who could holler “BLUES” the loudest and the most. I know my diaphram was sore today.

After closing time both nights, the bar was turned over to the devices as the inner sanctum of the coalface collective set to work on finishing what it was they started… getting drunk. First night there was endless jamming, the second, much spurious talk was made. One could have been forgiven for thinking that the devil ‘imself was taking notes.

It was a great and indeed dirty weekend.

For the Re-mains, all of this was preceded by a triumphant return to the City Tavern in Tamworth. It had been quite some time since setting foot in that place and things went very much off. 2 exhaustive sets of CR&R had the Tamworth crowd in an uproar. In the audience were most of the old guard of the Tavern: Sav and Georgina, Deano, Lurch, Sandy et al. For a while I thought it was two years ago up there. It felt the same only the band was twice, make that 3 times as good.

Well there’s 2 weeks off till the national tour for “Field Conditons” kicks off. Till then, cut sick all of ya!
